Peel Estate is one of Western
Australia’s most prestigious wineries. Owned by the genial Will Nairn,
the winery and vineyards are located just south of Perth in the Peel
region (named after the winery).
THE PEEL region of Australia
has limestone soils, and, with vineyards just over a mile from the
Indian Ocean, experiences mild winters and relatively cool summers.
Peel tends the vines (pruning
and harvesting) by-hand, before aging this wine in oak for 12 months.
The vineyards were not irrigated for the first 11 years to ensure
maximum fruit intensity in the resulting wines.
Wine with fine golden yellow
and green colour.
The bouquet of the wine is
full, with aromas of peach, quince, candied fruit, vanilla and carnation.
The taste of the wine is full-bodied
with generous tropical fruit flavors (white fruit, lychee) and a fairly
full “white Burgundy” structure. Excellent acidity and minerality
with a long finish on fruit and vanillin.
Drink now through 2015 – it
will continue to develop complex honeyed characteristics.
A serious food wine that is
ideal with white meats with sauces, spicy Asian and Indian cuisine,
veal chops, or strong cheeses.
Serve the wine at temperature
+10°C/+12°C
